To prevent duplication of effort, it is essential to have one central point where people list their indexing projects. Records for one State may be indexed by someone living in another, so a single NATIONAL register of indexes is desirable. For 17 years I maintained such a register for the whole of Australia. I did so without any assistance, and with no financial support. Due to the difficulty of coping with such a massive project on my own, the Central Register of Indexing Projects in Australia ceased to operate on 31 Mar 2003.
