Specialist Indexes in Australia: a Genealogist's Guide is an index of indexes that are useful for historical research, especially genealogy, family history and local history. It is based on information submitted to my Central Register of Indexing Projects in Australia.
2006 Supplement: An 'index of indexes' (published and unpublished) with descriptions and contact addresses to help you gain access to over 700 indexes (many privately held and accessible only by mail enquiry) for all parts of Australia and some overseas areas. There are indexes to newspapers; local area sources; overseas records; One-Name studies; immigration; cemeteries; ships; electoral rolls; naturalisations; convicts; asylums; Masonic Lodge; occupational, military, church, school, court, council, police and undertakers' records; and a very wide variety of other sources and topics. This book contains new and updated entries only, so you may also need the 1998 edition.
1998 edition: Includes descriptions and contact addresses for about 500 entries that are not repeated in the 2006 Supplement. A satisfied customer said this about the 1998 edition:
Judy Webster's directory of indexes is one of my most valued resources. It has saved me an enormous amount of time searching for sources. It should be the constant companion of researchers and indexers alike. Worth many times more than the cover price. [Terry Egan, Melbourne, Australia, June 1998]
