This table summarises the information that is required (or desirable). Failure to supply such information may result in delays and higher research costs.

| Electoral roll | Year / district to search, occupation, birthdate, spouse, known addresses with dates. |
| Immigration | Birthdate, native place, occupation, ship/port/date if known, or first recorded event in Qld and last confirmed event elsewhere; death date and years in Qld as shown on death certificate; names of parents and/or siblings with whom the subject may have arrived. |
| Inquest | Date, place and cause of death; identifying details (age, spouse, etc.) |
| School admission | Town, official name of school, birthdate; parent/guardian's name, occupation, address. |
| Will | Death date/place, places of RESIDENCE, spouse, parents, children. |
| Certificate | Event, place, date or years to search, father's name, mother's maiden name, spouse's name; your relationship to the person, purpose for which certificate is required, your nationality / passport number or other ID. |
Important note re probate files: My policy (unless otherwise instructed) is to copy only the original will plus (if available) death certificate, inventory, grant of probate, and any affidavits or other documents that I consider to be of particular interest for family history research. I do not usually copy file covers, affidavits of publication and search, bills of costs etc.
